I Am George, or adventures at Pickering Museum Village March 16, 2007

Great to see our friends at the Pickering Museum Village receive such wonderful press from the Toronto Star for their Settler Trail program on Wednesday. Billed as “Experience the winter trail ‘Settler Style’” it included a scavenger hunt, outdoor games for children, cooking over an open fire, and log sawing. It was the two-person log sawing that captured my children’s attention when we went. My remarks to my wife that my youngest son had only one major artery in his leg was even noted in the article, although my name is not George.

So, check out all the PMV has this year, and you might too be George!

Author Jan Thornhill visits the Library March 15, 2007

The Library and some forty fans welcomed author and illustrator Jan Thornhill to the Central Library this morning for some creepy and fascinating fun. While the audience sat attentively during the presentation (that included photos of decomposing pigs), the real fun started when Jan brought out her Museum-in-a-bag. Children and adults alike got to touch and examine mouse skulls, five foot python skin and the tiny mummified brown bat.
It was great to see a few WiseGuys in the audience. Jan has always been a favourite author, making nature fun and interesting through her award-winning books, many of which have been Silver Birch and Blue Spruce nominees.
